Church Live Nativity Story Dec. 20, 2015: We had our Live Nativity Story performed during the morning worship service and had special music. We heard and saw the birth of our Lord played out in live fashion. It was a great time of worship. Praise the Lord for his miraculous birth.
Annual Hayride & Caroling Dec. 16, 2015: We had a good time traveling around to Carl’s house, Mrs. Virginia, Sister Evelyn’s, Radar’s, and Mrs. Sherry’s house to sing. We even stopped by Mrs. Dot’s but she didn’t hear us. It was really fun and we had some great chili to start the night off.
1st Annual Adult Progressive Dinner: Dec. 5, 2015: We had a good time going to four church family homes. We went to Cherri and Joe Bingham’s for appetizers and then Sherry Maberry’s for soup & salads. Then Pastor Richard & Mrs Lora’s for the main course and ended up at the church where Mrs. Virginia & Marian did an awesome job with deserts. Her daughter Marian was here from Germany. The gift exchange went well and we had a great time of laughing and loving. We needed it especially with the passing of our dear friend and Virginia’s husband Paul the week before. We will miss him. Come join us next year.
Church Thanksgiving Dinner Nov. 22, 2015: We had our annual church wide Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings. Our Bonn fire was not as successful due to the rain but we still had a few faithful go out. Right Cassandra, Daniel, Michelle & teens? It was a great night of fellowship and fun.
Youth Lock-in Fear Factor Style Oct. 30, 2015: Our youth had their first Lock in with their new Youth pastor & youth team and they had a blast. They had a great time playing games, watching movies, eating crazy scary stuff and most of all glorifying God. Come join our youth group and see what is happening.
God is Awesome- Aug-Oct. 2015: We have had baptisms each week for the last month. We have baptized eight people this summer. God is good. One young lady got saved during our children’s program on Wed. nights and another women got saved after going on our mission trip to Jacksonville.
August 10, 2015. We had a “Community end of life planning Seminar ” sponsored by Whidden Funeral Home in Bartow. We had Pizza from Hungry Howies and got some great information.
Aug 12, 2015. We had our first “Singspiration” Sunday night with about 33 people there. We had some contemporary songs, old time southern country gospel, good ole hymns and specials. We also had some picking and grinning thanks to Bro. Troy & Bro. Raymond. A special thanks to Mrs. Flora for playing the piano. We look forward to the next one 2nd Sunday of September.
July 31-Aug 1 Mission Trip Words to Works, Jacksonville FL. We had our overnight mission trip to Jacksonville July 31st and Aug.1. We started with a dinner feeding the homeless and other hungry people in the community Friday night. Saturday morning we had a community project of prayer walking the community, talking to people and picking up trash. Saturday afternoon we did a block party and backyard bible club and then drove home. We saw 2 people come to know the Lord and had a great time with the other church from Belle Shoals who was there with us this weekend. God was glorified.
July 25th, 2015 Prayer Walk/Drive Alturas. We went into our community and prayed for our community . We stopped at all businesses, churches, schools and prayed blessings and protection over them. We also were praying for homes and families along our walk and drive. We also sat in each pew and prayed for each person who would be sitting there. Then we prayed over each entrance to our church that God would keep Satan out and bless those coming in and that God would change their hearts.
July 18, 2015, Kitchen Wars. We had a great time of “Kitchen Wars Cooking Showdown” for our family fun night. Our four esteemed judges where Sister Evelyn, Sister Dot, Sister Virginia And Brother Paul. They tasted the goods and watched the sabotages fly and the winning team of Ricky, Kevin, Jeremiah and Dylan took home the prizes. Great job guys.
June 22-26, 2015 VBS JOURNEY OFF THE MAP. We had a great week with Jesus as our guide. We had a good group of kids come and great workers. We had some great helpers come for crafts and our preschool from First Baptist Church Eagle Lake. We thank them. Here is a look at the week in pictures.

April 12, 2015: Youth Sunday. Our youth took care of the worship service Sunday from leading worship, special music, announcements, taking up the offering, prayer and even the preaching. They did an awesome job. This truly is the next generation of leaders in our church.
March 28, 2015: Celebrate Jesus Parade in Bartow. We had a great time following Jesus on his boat. The sign said he would make us fishers of men. Can’t wait till next year.
March 14-15, 2015: Homecoming Celebration. We had our 61st annual homecoming celebration on March 14 & 15. The activities started off with Gulf State Quartet singing Saturday @ 6:00 pm. They were AWESOME. Even better than last year. We had about 80 of our friends show up and enjoy some foot stomping praise Jesus music. Then on Sunday @ 11:00 am Rev. Bill Anderson preached the Word and brought a salvation message. Guest Music Director Elon Sowell lead worship and Mrs. Flora Conley did a great job as our pianist. Mrs. Pat Hitchcock did a wonderful piano special and Bro. Dennis Albritton sang wonderfully. We ended with dinner on the grounds. Come join us next year and get your socks blessed off. February 15, 2015: Talent Night: We had our talent night for our family fun night this month. We had some cook, dance, sing, recite poetry, make a sculpture, as well as stand up comedy, There was a $15. prize for 1st place, a $10.00 prize for second and a $5. prize for 3rd place winners. Everyone won watching the show. We had 8 participants this year. Start preparing for next year.
February 13, 2015 Valentines Banquet and youth fundraiser. We had our Night of Italy. and raised $504.00 for our youth group. We had over 40 attend and had over 25 items donated for our silent auction. Here are some pics.
Jan 17, 2015 Men’s Brotherhood: Jan 17 was our first Men’s brotherhood meeting. We had a great pancake & sausage breakfast made by Jack, Josiah & Darian counts our three boys. Then we had a time of prayer & scripture reading. We then went and rebuilt a wheel chair ramp for Carl and it turned out great. It was a great time of fellowship. We will be meeting the 2nd Saturday of each month. All men & Boys are welcome.
December 24, 2014: Christmas Eve Service: We had our annual Christmas Eve service @ 6:00pm on Christmas Eve. It was a great time to Worship the new born King our Jesus.
December 22, 2014: Youth Lock in We had a Minute to win it theme lockin that started at 6pm on Dec 22ndand ended at 8am Dec 23rd. We had 9 youth and 3 adults. Almost everyone made it up all night long with no sleeping.
December 21, 2014 Youth Christmas program We had our Children/Youth Christmas Drama at 11:00am and it was a great time of honoring the Lord on His birth.
December 21, 2014 Alturas Community Christmas Cantata was held at the Methodist Church in Alturas 7:00pm. We had a great time of fellowship and some awesome harmony. Practice does pay off. We practiced on Mon. and Thursday nights for about 5 weeks. There were also great refreshments and goodies afterwards. It is good getting together with our community and praising our Lord.
December 17, 2104– We started off our evening with some excellent chili about 6 pots full and sandwiches as well as desserts. We then had a great time of Christmas caroling and Hayride traveling around Alturas. You missed a good time if you weren’t here. We were able to have great fellowship and fun.
December 14, 2014: Live Nativity Service. We had our Live Nativity Service at 11:00am. It went well and we didn’t have any major hiccups. It is really nice to see the whole story played out with real people. It brings a different perspective. Pictures will follow.
November 23rd: Thanksgiving Dinner, We had our annual church wide Thanksgiving family dinner. It was a great time of fellowship and worship. We had a good Bonn fire and shared about God’s blessings over the last year. It was great seeing 40 plus church family come together and eat and fellowship and have an amazing time in the Lord. By the way the food was AWESOME. We had an over abundance. Thank you Lord
November 2, 2014. Baby Dedication: We had our first baby dedication in years. We pray for Chris & Danielle Clifton as they raise Miss Rozalija in the way of the Lord. We also committed as a church to support them any way we can in that endeavor
Oct 31, 2014. Community Fall Festival. We had a great time with our dart board balloon game as well as our corn hole toss and brother Matt did an awesome time demonstrating bull whip popping.
October 21, 2014: Ridge Baptist Association Monthly Pastors conference 12:00 noon. Lunch is provided.
October 16, 2014: We had our Ridge Baptist Association annual meeting. The theme was “Engaging our community” and was held at First Baptist Church of Eagle Lake. It was a good night of learning and fellowship. Dr. Robert Roberts gave a challenging message for us to hear.
September 21, 2014 We had our Back to church Sunday. We served breakfast during the Sunday school hour and then had a great worship service with baptisms.
September 14th; Movie Night. We had a good gathering to watch the movie God’s not dead. We shared some popcorn and refreshments. We will start the six week Bible study that goes along with the movie this Wednesday Sept 17th. Thanks to those who helped in the effort. We also had our youth do a little fundraiser and made a little money for the youth group.
Sept 13, 2014: Neighborhood Blitz. We went into our neighborhood inviting people to church and to the movie. We start ed at 9:00 am and went to about 1:00 pm. We visited 570 homes and invited them to church. Thank you to the 9 who showed up and helped us accomplish the task. It is always good to remember Phil. 4:13 that says I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Stay tuned for our next blitz.
September 7, 2014 : We had a neighborhood flu clinic and pneumonia shots. Walgreen’s Pharmacy was kind enough to be at First Baptist Church Alturas after the morning worship service. They gave out flu shots to 6 people and 2 pneumonia shots in our community.
August 31, 2014: We went to N Ft. Meyers to do a joint 5th Sunday sing with a sister church there. We had a great time of fellowship and hearing God’s Word from Pastor Gavin Croft. We were inspired by a sign language youth choir and the specials were great. Mrs. Sherry always does a great job. And I as pastor got to sing a duet with my daughter Kristina. The ladies of First Baptist Church N. Ft Meyers did a great job on all the desserts afterwards for our social
August 17, 2014 Hawaiian Luau. We had a great time of fellowship & fun for our Hawaiian Luau. We had a hula hoop and limbo contest. We also learned how to do the hula dance to Amazing grace my chains are gone by Chris Tomlin
July 20th We had a great time of fellowship on our family fun night with Volleyball and board games. Who knew Sister Evelyn and Sister Dot were so good as Gestures.
June 23-27, 2014 VBS was great. We had a great week of fun and detective work on who Jesus is and is he really alive. We discovered that Jesus really is God’s son and He died on a cross and rose again to pay for our sins. We had 35 kids come to VBS and one young man accept Christ. God is so good. June 21, 2014 VBS Kick off Block Party: We had an exciting time great snow cones, pop corn and some great wild boar prepared by our own Matt F. Great job Matt. We had 13 youth as well as 35 kids plus workers learn who Jesus is. Praise the Lord we had 1 young man accept Christ as his Savior.
May 18, 2014 We had our first family fun night and had a great time of fellowship & food. We had a battle of the sexes Pictionary game and the ladies were victorious. Next month we will be having a block party to get ready for VBS.
April 20, 2014 we had a great time of community fellowship for our Easter Sunrise service. Then off to our own services. We had great specials and God was definitely moving. Praise the Lord He is Risen.
March 8-9, 2014 What an incredible 60th home coming celebration. We started Saturday night with the Gulf State Quartet concert and had an awesome time praising our Lord . We saw old friends come home and also had some new ones visit. It was followed by a moving worship service Sunday. Home grown Alturas native Dr. Chris Young presented the Holy Spirit filled Word of God and great worship was included by former church member Kathy Girrard and Dr. Chris sang along with one of our deacons Dennis shared specials. We honored our founding members, of which five where in attendance. We followed that up by an incredible amount of good food and great fellowship. There will be pictures to follow.
Jan 12th, 2014 We had 2 Baptisms today. Matt & Alex, both young adults decide they wanted to publicly profess Christ as the Word of God mentions. We also had our quarterly business meeting and pot blessings after the morning service.
January 11, 2014 Winter Jam Music Fest. Tampa. Youth event
Christmas eve Service 2013 : We had a small gathering to worship the birth of our Lord at our Candlelight service. It is one light in the darkness that shares the light with another and soon the whole room is lit up and then the world.
Hayride: We had a great turn out for our hayride & chili feed. Brother Dennis & Bro Kevin brought their trucks and trailers and Mrs. Lora picked up the hay and off we went. For some reason we had about 35 for the chili feed and about 25 doing the singing. Hmmm. We went to some shut ins homes and sang and others we just stopped to spread cheer. Thank you to all who made it a fun great evening.
Decorating: We had a great time decorating the church for Christmas and singing praises to our King. We had some great desserts and our weekly pizza fest. It is great to get together and fellowship one with another. Thank you to our decorating leader Sister Virginia and our pianist for the night Sister Flora. Also thank you to all who helped make God’s house look so wonderful.
Thanksgiving 2013: We had our annual thanksgiving pot blessings and had a blast. We enjoyed a smorgasbord of items, from hams, chicken/dumplings, greens, everglade baked beans, deviled eggs and much more. Oh and let’s not forget the desserts. We then roasted marshmallows around the fire while we took turns thanking God for family, friends, church and the blessings He has given us. Come join us next year for a great time of fellowship.
